Stop beating the algorithm
Stop trying to beat the algorithm!
It’s been hard on Instagram! Especially for small brands and businesses. We know. And I myself have battled with the algorithm before. But then I realized, why fight it?
Instead, use it to your advantage. Whatever new features or new guidelines they release, try it. See how it would make your Instagram pages get more engagement.
But how will you see the effects?
1. Do it constantly and consistently. I know, I know. You’ve heard this before. But this is one of the most accurate and most tested moves one can make to harness that engaged audience. Consistency provides expectation. So you’re assured that your followers are waiting for more. Train them to see posts from you.
2. Be Purposeful. Your posts have to mean something. Whatever visual you use and a caption that goes along with it, make sure that other than it serves you, it will help your audience too. Make it a habit to create posts that would either lead to providing information about you or your brand, about your business offerings, entertainment, influence, education, and more—time this content according to your marketing goals and the season.
3. Put a strategy in place. Don’t expect random posts to get you the engagement you want. Know when to post, what to post, and who your target audience will address in those posts.
4. Be social. Try! Interact with your followers and with people who engaged with you. It’s “social media,” after all.
5. Give it time. If you have done all of the above for two days, don’t expect anything yet. Give it time. Do it at least for a month to see the difference. It does not happen overnight. Your aim should not be “make it viral overnight” all the time. Long and lasting social media marketing success doesn’t happen in a blink of an eye. It will take time.
6. Don't let likes and followers count be the basis for your success or failure. Let’s admit it, sometimes, we can’t be consistent, or we don’t always have purposeful content, or we missed out on strategizing, or we don't have enough patience to do it all. Social media likes and followers do not define your business's success. It’s a tool to introduce yourself and your brand to them, and it’s a tool to share more about you and your product or services. Likes and follower counts should not reflect how great you are at your craft or how amazing your products are.
Remember, do not beat the algorithm. Don’t get stress out of having to find ways to make the algorithm work the other way. Let it be your guide to creating better strategies.
